In 2022, the leather, footwear and handbag industry set a new record when it reached an export turnover of 28 billion USD, an increase of more than 6.2 billion USD compared to 2021, of which, footwear export turnover reached 23.932 billion USD, while bags, suitcases and umbrellas reached approximately 4.1 billion USD.
Vietnam’s leather, footwear and handbag products are growing rapidly in many strategic markets, with the strongest being South America with a growth rate of about 50% in 2022, North America 39%, Europe 47%, Asia 28% and Oceania 39%. In particular, Vietnam’s leather and footwear exports to markets where Vietnam has free trade agreements such as the EVFTA, CPTPP, UKVFTA and ASEAN regional markets also grew strongly. The EAEU market was still affected by the prolonged military conflict between Russia and Ukraine, so there was no growth and a huge decrease compared to the same period last year (-64.3%).
